“ Dead Man’s Switch “ is a mechanism to prevent a device from operating when the user moves away from it. Originally intended and used mainly for transport security. Computer systems use a type of Kill Cord mechanism, i.e. cables to destroy/stop/disable the connected device. BusKill is the first such mechanism for laptops. Named after USB (Universal Serial Bus ) and, well, Kill.
📌 Operating principle : when the magnetic connection between the “USB flash drive” and the protected device is broken, a trigger set by the user is triggered: to block the PC or turn it off (by default), or to remove encryption keys from RAM and headers of encrypted LUKS or volumes/containers Cryptomator = irrevocable their destruction.
